Winter in Dubai: A Checklist to Tick Off Before the Season Ends (Through March)

Winter in Dubai is soft sunshine, comfortable 20–25°C days, and cooler evenings — the exact moment when the city feels most alive. While other places are dealing with snow and grey skies, Dubai is made for beaches, desert sunsets, outdoor festivals, long walks, and those “let’s just drive” day trips.

Below is a guide to the best winter pleasures in and around Dubai — from sunrise by the sea to golden light in the dunes, from marina promenades to mountain roads. Save it and try to experience it all before summer comes back.

Mini trips beyond Dubai (winter is ideal)

Winter is the best season to leave Dubai for a day and explore neighbouring Emirates. In summer it can feel like a mission — in winter it’s effortless: comfortable roads, fresh air, and that perfect light for photos. Here are three destinations that work beautifully as mini-trips:

☐ Abu Dhabi in a day

Abu Dhabi is around 1.5 hours from Dubai, and in winter it’s easy to do without an overnight stay.

Start with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. It’s one of those places that genuinely stops you mid-step: white marble, 82 domes, thousands of mother-of-pearl inlaid columns, and some of the world’s most impressive chandeliers and carpets. In winter, walking through the courtyards is comfortable (in summer the marble can feel intense), and the softer daylight makes everything look even more elegant.

Your second “must” is Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island — the Paris Louvre’s sister, but with its own identity. Even if you’re not into art, the building is worth the drive: that huge dome that looks like a piece of lace, galleries surrounded by water, and the whole place feeling calm and cinematic. Inside you’ll find a strong collection that moves from ancient civilisations to modern masters. Winter often brings additional exhibitions, so you can easily spend 2–3 hours wandering slowly and actually enjoying it.

Beyond the classics, Abu Dhabi also has major attractions like Ferrari World (home to one of the fastest rollercoasters in the world) and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi (opened in 2023) — perfect if you’re going with kids or you love theme parks. But even the simple “mosque + Louvre” combination works every time.

Tip: pick a weekday to avoid traffic, leave in the morning, come back late evening. You’ll be slightly tired — but the kind of tired that feels like a good life choice.

☐ Ras Al Khaimah: mountains, beaches, and a slower rhythm

Ras Al Khaimah sits in the north of the UAE and is known for mountains and a calmer pace. It’s roughly just over an hour from Dubai, depending on where you start.

The main goal is usually Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in the UAE (1,934 m). In winter, the drive up is pure pleasure: the road winds through dramatic rock formations, and with every kilometre the air feels cooler. At the top, you’ll find designated viewpoints such as Jais Viewing Deck Park, with wide open panoramas that look especially good in the morning or at sunset. The temperature can drop significantly — sometimes down to around 10°C on the summit, which feels almost unreal after Dubai.

For thrill-seekers, there’s Jais Flight, one of the most famous attractions in the Emirates: a zipline experience that sends you flying over valleys for 2.8 km. The adrenaline is real — but even without it, a simple walk and a picnic up there is already impressive.

Beyond the mountains, Ras Al Khaimah is also about quieter beaches and resort life. In winter the water is cooler than Dubai, but that’s the trade: fewer people, more space, and a more relaxed coastal mood. You can spend the evening on Al Hamra beach or visit Al Jazirah Al Hamra Heritage Village, an old abandoned village with a slightly mysterious, cinematic feel.

Bonus for horse lovers: Al Jazeerah Equestrian Club (Al Hamra)

If you’re building a winter itinerary that feels special and different, this is a standout.

In the Al Hamra area, you’ll find Al Jazeerah Equestrian Club — widely known as the UAE’s leading beach riding community. Here you can do a beach ride along natural, quiet shorelines and even enter the sea on horseback when conditions allow. It’s one of those rare experiences that feels both adventurous and calm at the same time — and yes, it’s extremely photogenic.

Families often spend a full day there: riding, relaxing by the shore, picnicking, and letting kids interact with ponies. The club welcomes guests of different riding levels, so you don’t need to be an experienced rider to enjoy it.

They also operate a professional riding school, with lessons from first-time beginners to advanced disciplines, including show jumping — ideal if you want more than a one-off experience and are looking for a new regular hobby or sport.

Overall, Ras Al Khaimah in winter is a complete mood shift from Dubai: mountain views, cooler air, slower pace. A perfect mini-trip to reset.

☐ Fujairah: a different sea, a calmer feeling

Fujairah lies on the UAE’s east coast, on the edge of the Indian Ocean. It’s around 2 hours from Dubai, and winter is the best time to go.

The sea here feels different — wider, more open, with a quieter rhythm. Winter days in Fujairah can be incredibly peaceful: soft waves, salt in the air, long horizons. You can still swim (water is usually around 22–24°C in winter), though it feels fresher than the Gulf.

Head to Al Aqah for beach views backed by mountains and the famous Snoopy Island (yes, it looks like Snoopy). This is a great area for snorkelling: winter visibility is often excellent, and it’s not too hot to be active.

In Fujairah city, stop by the historic Fujairah Fort (around 400 years old) and the nearby Heritage Village. The surrounding Hajar Mountains can look surprisingly green after winter rain — a landscape that doesn’t feel “Dubai” at all, in the best way.

And please don’t leave without seafood: local cafés serve incredibly fresh fish — often caught the same morning.

Fujairah feels like a winter resort with a calmer heartbeat. Great for an overnight stay if you can — waking up to ocean air is unbeatable — but still totally doable as a long day trip if you start early and return after dinner.

Beaches, Sea and the True Dubai Winter

Winter is the season when Dubai’s coastline finally becomes truly enjoyable. The water is still warm, the sun is gentle rather than aggressive, and the sand no longer burns your feet. This is when the city’s seaside lifestyle reveals its best side.

☐ Sunrise at Jumeirah or Kite Beach

Waking up early for a beach sunrise in Dubai is one of those small decisions that feel surprisingly rewarding. Bring coffee, walk barefoot along the shoreline, and watch the sky slowly turn from pale blue to soft pink. In the early morning, the beach is almost empty, the waves are quiet, and the city feels suspended in calm. It is a perfect moment to pause before the day begins.

☐ The iconic Burj Al Arab photograph

Winter is the ideal time to finally take that “postcard” photo. Head to Sunset Beach (Umm Suqeim), where the Burj Al Arab appears in its most elegant angle. The cooler air, gentle wind and clear light make winter the best season for photography. Even if you have seen this view many times online, seeing it in person never disappoints.

☐ A beach club day

Dubai’s beach clubs are designed for winter. Choose a weekday if possible — fewer people, calmer atmosphere, and often better offers. Spend the day moving between the sea, the pool and a shaded lounger. Add music, cold drinks and slow conversations, and you will understand why Dubai’s winter lifestyle is admired worldwide.

☐ A cruise on water: yacht or dhow

Being on the water in winter is especially pleasant. A private yacht with friends or a traditional dhow cruise along Marina or Dubai Creek both offer different, but equally beautiful perspectives. In the evening, the reflections of skyscrapers in the water and the soft sunset colours turn even a simple cruise into a cinematic experience.

☐ A sunset picnic on the beach

Take a blanket, a few snacks and a thermos of tea, and arrive at the beach around 5 pm. Winter sunsets in Dubai are dramatic and slow, painting the sky in orange and rose tones. Light a candle, sit quietly, and let the moment do its work. This is the kind of simple luxury that defines winter in Dubai far better than any restaurant.

Desert and Nature — The UAE’s Winter Face

Winter is the only season when the desert truly becomes accessible. In summer it is something you admire from afar; in winter it invites you inside.

☐ Desert Safari

A classic experience that still deserves its reputation. Dune bashing, sunset views, dinner in a desert camp and evening performances under the stars. Winter makes the whole journey comfortable — you can actually enjoy the evening without thinking about heat. If you prefer something more refined, look for premium safari options with smaller groups and higher-end camps.

☐ Your own desert sunset

You don’t need a tour to see the desert. Drive towards Lahbab or along Al Qudra Road, find a dune not far from the road, climb up and simply watch the sun disappear. The colours change every minute, from gold to purple to deep blue. Bring warm layers — the temperature drops quickly after sunset.

☐ Al Qudra Lakes

A true surprise in the middle of the desert. Winter brings birds, greenery and reflections on the water. You can cycle, walk or simply sit and observe. Flamingos, swans and quiet landscapes create a peaceful contrast to Dubai’s urban energy. Perfect for a relaxed daytime escape.

☐ Hatta day trip

Hatta is Dubai’s mountain retreat. Kayaking on the Hatta Dam, walking through the heritage village, driving scenic roads, and enjoying cooler mountain air. New winter additions such as the open-air Dome cinema and illuminated trails in Hatta Wadi Hub make evenings just as enjoyable as daytime.

☐ Love Lake

Two heart-shaped lakes hidden in the desert. Slightly kitsch in concept, but undeniably beautiful at sunset. Winter turns Love Lake into a peaceful romantic walk with soft light, calm air and long reflections on the water.

City Must-Dos in Winter

When the heat disappears, Dubai becomes a walking city.

☐ Dubai Marina evening walk

After 6 pm, Marina changes completely. Lights, yachts, reflections, restaurants, slow music from cafés. Walk along the canal, stop for dinner by the water, or take a short boat ride. It is one of the city’s most cinematic winter experiences.

☐ Al Seef and Old Dubai

Al Seef recreates Dubai’s historic waterfront with narrow streets, lanterns and traditional architecture. Nearby Al Fahidi offers museums, art spaces and wind towers. Cross Dubai Creek by abra for one dirham and enter Deira’s old souks. This is where Dubai feels real, layered and human.

☐ Abra across Dubai Creek

A short ride, but emotionally rich. Wooden boats, local passengers, birds, water sounds. A reminder of Dubai before skyscrapers.

☐ One observation deck

Choose one: Burj Khalifa, The View at The Palm, or Sky Views. Winter makes the waiting comfortable and the views clearer.
Bonus: Ain Dubai is back. A slow 38-minute rotation above the sea gives you time to truly absorb the city.

☐ IMAGINE show at Festival City

A free multimedia show with fountains, lasers and projections. Winter evenings are perfect for standing by the water and enjoying the spectacle without discomfort.

☐ Dubai Miracle Garden

Open only in winter. Millions of flowers arranged into sculptures, castles and aircraft. Visit early morning for fewer crowds and softer light.

Night Markets and Winter Streets

☐ Seasonal markets and pop-ups

Christmas markets, Ripe Market, Global Village. Food, crafts, lights, music. Global Village alone offers over 90 country pavilions and daily shows.

☐ Simply walk

Downtown, City Walk, JBR. Winter in Dubai is about slow walking, warm drinks, people-watching and feeling part of the city.

Food and Winter Rituals

☐ Dubai brunch

Not a meal — a lifestyle institution.

☐ Afternoon tea

Soft elegance, porcelain cups, layered trays and skyline views.

☐ Terrace dinner

Water, fountains or skyline as your backdrop.

☐ Street classics

Shawarma and luqaimat — winter comfort food with local soul.

Culture and Emotional Experiences

☐ A ticketed evening

Opera, ballet, concert or stand-up. Dress up and go.

☐ Alserkal Avenue

Art galleries, design studios and creative cafés.

☐ Museum of the Future or ARTE Museum

Choose between future technology or digital art immersion.
