Galaxy:
The future of hockey starts here

Hockey and Dubai—a pairing that, until recently, would have seemed utterly out of place.

However, Galaxy Academy, founded in September 2022 by brothers Yuri and Vladislav Lomakin, has shown that even the desert sands can give way to the ice rink.

How hockey became part of our lives in Dubai

When we relocated to Dubai, one of our primary concerns was finding a suitable environment where our children—keen young athletes—could continue pursuing their passion. Figure skating and hockey are hardly what you’d expect to find in the Gulf, and the idea of discovering well-established clubs or academies here felt rather far-fetched.

As luck would have it, we were among the first families to join Galaxy, which significantly eased our transition. Reflecting on it, much of a parent’s routine tends to revolve around their children’s pursuits.

But hockey isn’t only about the children; it’s about their families and the community that grows around them. At Galaxy, the atmosphere is one of support and shared motivation, perfectly blended with a professional approach. Coaches not only teach technical skills but also instill a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. It’s a place where everyone—from absolute beginners to seasoned players—feels valued and part of something much larger.

Infrastructure and Professionalism

In 2024, Galaxy inaugurated two state-of-the-art hockey centers in the Mirdif Sport Society and Jumeirah. These centers are fully equipped to support training in every aspect of the game, from refining puck-handling skills and improving shot accuracy and power to enhancing coordination. Hockey players of all skill levels can train and hone their abilities in these facilities.

From First Practices to the International competitions

Today, Galaxy is more than just a sports academy; it’s home to over 130 players from 33 countries, making it the largest in the Middle East. Over the past two years, its teams have participated in 12 international tournaments, proudly representing Dubai in Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Italy, and other countries.

Additionally, seven Galaxy players have earned UAE sports passports, allowing them to represent the country at world championships and the Asian Cup—an achievement that reflects not only the academy’s success but also the growing strength of the region’s hockey community.

The amateur Galaxy Hockey Media League is also flourishing, alongside the professional Galaxy Warriors club, which competes in the Emirates Hockey League.

The Future of Hockey in the UAE

Galaxy Academy is not just about training players; it’s laying the groundwork for the growth of hockey in the UAE, setting a high standard and proving that passion for hockey and perseverance can overcome any obstacle—even the climate.

If you’re looking for a place where your child can reach their potential, make friends, and become part of a unique community, Galaxy is the perfect choice. Here, the future of hockey is being built, and your child’s sporting story is being written.
